However, I feel it is wrong that there is so much media coverage concerning Virginia tech when in the past year, there have been many more that only got a blip on the media.
September 2, 2006: A man visiting Shepherd University kills himself and both of his sons
September 13, 2006: Dawson college in Westmount, Montreal- One died, Nineteen injured- eight of whom were in critical condition, six needing surgery
September 27, 2006: A man walked into Platte Canyon High School in Colorado saying he had a bomb, took six hostages, one was shot and died at the hospital
September 29, 2006: 15 y.o. student walked into Weston High School with two loaded guns, after one was taken away, he pulled the other, while he was being subdued, he got off three shots, shooting his principal, who died in the hospital the next day
October 2, 2006: Known as the Amish school shooting, a man killed five young girls before turning the gun on himself
I understand that more students were killed at VT than at any other school shooting, but that shouldn't matter, more deaths should not mean more media coverage. The point of the matter is that in this day and age, our schools are not safe, and there should be higher standards of safety and better gun control laws to keep psychos away from firearms.
Again, don't read this the wrong way, it was a horrible tragedy that occurred, but where are the candlelight vigils for everyone else? Why must more people die for a tragedy to get recognition?
